Hooray, the sun reappeared today! First order of business was to get more propane gas in the RV. The furnace runs on propane and we are running that bad boy all night!
We then drove back down to Jackson for a day of e-biking. First we dropped Molly and Liza off at doggy daycare because we were planning to be gone all day and that’s too long for them to spend alone in the RV. The bike shop was conventionally located across the street from the doggy day care. Neither of us had ever ridden an e-bike so there was a brief tutorial. Remember that Peter is an avid and accomplished road biker so this was totally out of his comfort zone!
Our destination was Jenny Lake but first let me give you some facts about Grand Teton National Park. French Canadian trappers named the mountain range “Les Trois Tetons” (the three breasts). Now it’s just called the Tetons. The Grand Teton is the tallest mountain in the range. There are two major lakes. Jackson Lake in the north (close to our campground) and Jenny Lake in the South. Both are fed by the Snake River. The town of Jackson lies just south of the Park. The term Jackson Hole refers to the valley where the town is located.
Okay, back to our regularly scheduled program. Although there is a great bike path from Jackson to the Park we didn’t want to bike 23 miles just to get to the lake. So we put the bikes in the RV and drove 15 miles to the welcome center and parked the RV there.
We hopped on the bikes for the 8 mile ride to the lake. The path is at the foot of the mountains but is relatively flat. Even so, how cool is it to ride a bike and not work hard at pedaling. I am a convert.
Peter and I agreed that the view from the path was one of the most stunning rides we have done. Pictures fail to capture the majesty and grandeur of the snow capped mountains. Their beauty was heightened by the juxtaposition of the flaming yellow aspen at the base. Words fail me.
If I am being honest Jenny Lake was a bit of a disappointment. The bike path was on detour and the views from the edge of the lake paled in comparison to the views on the ride. But having said that it was still beautiful.
After arriving back in Jackson we returned the bikes and picked up the girls who were very excited to see us and returned to the campground.
Dinner tonight was grilled orange chicken. I put it to marinade before we left for biking. It was accompanied by tomato “fauxsotto”. I used instant rice so it lacked the creaminess of risotto but it only took 15 minutes!
Tomorrow is a travel day. Our ultimate next destination is Moab in Utah. However we are breaking the very long drive by spending the night in Dutch John UT. See you on the other side!
How utterly majestic! My son found the Tetons to be his favorite region on his cross country bike trek. I must go!
Beautiful pics and love the details.. I truly feel like I am experiencing this with you!! Safe travels! Can’t wait to see what’s next
